Group Exercise Classes

Our 30-minute Xpress classes are ideal for hectic schedules. Better yet, all base-level land and aquatic group exercises are included in membership fees. Kidz in Motion

Kidzinmotion

Kidz in Motion provides a safe, secure, supervised environment for children six months through nine years of age while parents participate in wellness programs. Physically and cognitively engaging daily activities promote true wellness through fitness, science, arts and crafts, games and special projects.

Kidz in Motion Hours:

    • 9am - 12pm / 4pm - 8pm

    • 9am - 12pm / 4pm - 7pm

Meet our Fitness Coaches!

Jenn Herman

Jenn Herman, BS, AFAA-CPT

Jenn has a total of four years’ experience as a personal trainer through AFFA and NETA along with 11 years’ experience in the fitness industry with a background in Therapeutic Recreation. Jenn also brings seven years of experience as a certified group fitness instructor and teaches an array of classes at Sequoia.  Jenn has a Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation from Kent State University.    

Jenn loves helping clients and members find the fun factor in exercise and find ways to not look at working out as a chore. “I enjoy showing and encouraging members to try and experience the things they thought they couldn’t do by stepping out of their comfort zone safely and effectively. It’s easier to make health, fitness, & overall well-being a lifestyle & habit, if you are enjoying it!”

Jenn has a Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation from Kent State University. She lives in Ravenna and she is not at work, she herself enjoys participating in physical activities such as organized running events and weight-training. “I refer to keeping up with my five children as my main workout!” Jenn encourages and motivates her family to stay active and healthy.

 Karey Higgs

Karey Higgs, AS, NETA-CPT

Karey started her fitness journey 7 years ago when her first child was 8    months old. She did not always lead a healthy lifestyle and as a result became very overweight with her first pregnancy. After realizing that she had to make a change with herself and her new family, she began to take her first steps into adopting a new way of life. With changes in diet and the initiation of exercise, she lost 50 pounds!

Shortly after, she became a certified Group Exercise instructor and certified spinning instructor. She went to school at the University of Akron and earned an Associate’s Degree in Exercise Science. Karey has now been working in the Fitness industry for about 5 years. She also recently obtained a Personal Training certification. “I know what it’s like to come from being overweight and inactive, to completely turning that around and starting a new, healthy lifestyle. I used to feel awful and in pain. Exercise and diet are the best medicine and I want to help others reach their goals to feel great too!”

Karey lives in Norton with her husband and 3 children. She enjoys being active with her family and going on walks, hikes and bike rides. Her 3 young children keep her on her toes at home, but she does enjoy cooking and discovering healthy new recipes to add to the family meals and snacks.

 

 Derek Diruzza

Derek Diruzza, BS, ACSM-CPT

Derek is a Certified Personal Trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine. He believes every great program starts with a foundation in functional strength and that without the proper education and base level strength, it is difficult to really achieve your goals. Derek enjoys working with all populations and has a wide knowledge base as it pertains to fitness and exercise prescription.  He also has his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology from Kent State University.

Derek has always been physically active participating in sports throughout his youth. In high school he competed in track and cross country running in a total of all 4 years in each. In college, he rounded out is experience with regular resistance training.

Derek has his Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology from Kent State University. In his free time, you will find him outdoors – hunting, fishing and shooting his bow.

 Travis Talkington

Travis Talkington, BS, ACSM-CPT

Being physically fit and active is something that Travis has been passionate about his entire life. Coaching and training is an investment that Travis has made not only for himself but also for his clients, friends, and his family. Being able to help people that he cares for reach their goals and make progress is one of the most rewarding parts that he enjoys about his job.

Travis earned his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Kent State University and is a Certified Personal Trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine. He plans to continue his educational career so he can utilize his skills to train people with clinically diagnosed cardiovascular, pulmonary, and other physical and metabolic diseases. Being able to work with individuals from any demographic is something that Travis takes pride in.  

In his spare time Travis can be found eating food, playing video games, golfing, hanging out with his girlfriend and friends, and or course – exercising.

 

 Tom Ewing

Tom Ewing, BS, ACSM-CPT

Tom is a United States Navy Veteran that served for 11 years. After serving his country, Tom knew how important it is to be fit and healthy so he decided to pursue a degree in Exercise Science. In the spring of 2016 Tom graduated from The University of Akron with his bachelor’s degree. He is now looking forward to taking on new challenges by helping people, including family and friends, reach their goals of becoming more active and fit.

Tom has received his Certified Personal Trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine. His next step is to become a Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist so he can help individuals who have cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases

In his free time, Tom enjoys spending time with his family. He is also an avid runner and has competed in numerous 10k’s, Half Marathons, and Marathons.
